Character Analysis Of Franny In Countdown - 1087 Words

In Countdown by Deborah Wiles, the character Franny is shown to be a very round character possessing many different traits. These traits include being observant, over dramatic, and self conscious. Now Franny is very observant as seen by her others doing something very small out of the ordinary and her noticing. So in short, others actions. When her sister Jo Ellen smiled at her brother Drew, she noticed that Jo Ellen smiled at him like she was his mother (73). No one ordinary takes a second glance at their sibling’s smile to note any abnormalities in such an average setting like the dinner table. For Franny to acknowledge that shows that she really pays attention to everything thus making her observant. Now others actions aren’t the only†¦show more content†¦As Franny is observant, she is also over dramatic. Her emotions convey this beautifully on page 39 when she feels betrayed by Margie for going over the Gale’s house instead of hers. Franny and Gale d on’t have anything against each other yet so Margie was just visiting another friend. Franny is being overdramatic even though the two live in a close proximity and are best friends so it isn’t like they never see each other. With these emotions of betrayal, Franny is not mentally allowing Margie to have many close friendships with any other classmates and is getting in the way of her own friendship. While Franny’s emotions can show a great deal about her being over dramatic, her words can as well. After Uncle Otts episode, Franny claims she is â€Å"embarrassed for life.† (49). Franny believes that everyone who knows her and her family are going to gossip about the episode at the dinner table and it will reflect badly on her. Franny doesn’t realize that Uncle Otts breakdown doesn’t reflect badly on her but only Otts since she wasn’t the one having the episode and was only a bystander. She even hid herself from the public so they could n’t see her at all since she was hiding from Otts. Now words are just spoken thoughts and the final instance of Franny being over dramatic is seen through her thoughts. On page 109, Franny thinks the reason Mrs. R’s explanation of the science fair project doesn’t make sense is because Mrs. R hates her. Franny is taking this way too

The Application of Digital Forensics in Criminal...

System Forensics Explicate how digital forensics was used to identify Rader as a suspect and lead to more concrete physical evidence. Digital forensics was used to identify Dennis Rader based upon a computer disk he sent to the police. What happened is Rader resumed communication with law enforcement as the BTK killer. In one of his letters he included a disk. That was on a Microsoft Word document for them to examine. They turned this over to computer forensic experts, who found out that there was another file which was previously deleted. (Vacca Rudolph, 2011) (Raggo, 2012) (Sammons, 2012) Forensic scientists were able to retrieve it and conclude that it was someone named Dennis from the Christ Lutheran Church. Investigators examined the churchs website, and found out that the President of their Congregation Council was a man named Dennis Rader. This helped police to identify him as a suspect and conduct DNA tests. It proved that he was the BTK killer. (Vacca Rudolph, 2011) (Raggo, 2012) (Sammons, 2012) Describe in detail the digital evidence that was uncovered from the floppy disk obtained from Rader. Discuss why you believe it took so many years to find concrete evidence in order to build a case against Rader. The Encase software was used to locate the missing Word file. This was accomplished by piecing together the old document and allowing investigators to read it. The evidence provided them with the suspects first name and the church he was affiliated

Globalization trends Free Essays

Each of these stakeholders gains when a company improves the value Hahn. The common key processes that should be used to improve the value and supply chain revolve around the customer, stakeholder, and supplier. Strategic planning to change management to customer service all serve a purpose. We will write a custom essay sample on Globalization trends or any similar topic only for you Order Now That purpose is to enable companies and partners to do business in such a different way that creates competitive advantage. When performance is elevated to a level in which success is imminent the company not only sees increase in profits but also sees new levels in customer service, inventory, production, and synchronization of key operations. Country Risk Analysis – Struck Entering Japan Any number of risks can affect an organization’s global operations and the way to overcome these risks is by implementing advantageous strategic goals and strategies. In any new business venture a firm must take risks to achieve objectives set. When expanding into a new country a higher degree of risk must be taken. However, a higher degree of risk does not mean the company will be venerable to losses because of changes in the economies or political situations in countries in which they are investing. Understanding the types of risk involved and properly planning for these risks will allow the company to mitigate most problems and revert losses. As described by A. M. Best’s assessment (2009) of the three categories of risk, Japan has been rated low in economic, political, and financial systems. Economic Environment Japan is the second largest economy in the world behind the United States. Yet, revised figures for the final quarter of 2009 grew by less than what was estimated, 1. 1 percent. â€Å"Japan continues to face the problem of deflation† (BBC News, 2010, Para. 6). Because deflation is bad for the economy, the tendency is for consumers and businesses to delay in making major purchases. With the value of currency rising all he higher value of currency to purchase more. Bank of Japan board members during their February meeting had mixed views on the economy. Some members believe that upside and downside risks were becoming balanced, whereas others felt â€Å"considerable downside risks to the economy’ (Toasts, 2010, Para. 2). Believing that brand recognition alone could aid in the success of expansion into Japan was not a good move for Struck. Because the Japanese have a taste for everything western Struck was sure about the marketability of the Japanese. Unfortunately, Struck suffered because of â€Å"bad predictions† (Gators, 2009, Para. 0) and not enough information gathered on Japan’s economy. Political Environment Presently, Japanese Prime Minister Taro Ass is struggling to implement strategies to bolster Japan’s economy. The Liberal Democratic Party (LDAP) has not passed a supplemental budget needed to fund the first economic stimulus package discussed back in October 2008 (Hashish, 2009). The political paralysis of Japan takes part in the global financial crisis causing the eroding of consumer product purchases. Once a business is up and running the worry becomes entering and enforcing contracts with errs and sellers. Even with guidelines set in formulating and enforcing contracts variations are still placed on certain ways a country views the legal system. Japan is a civil law system country encouraging shorter and less specific contracts because the general civic code deals with many pertinent issues (Daniels, Redheaded ; Sullivan, 2007). The wealth of the country decides on what business regulation procedures are required when opening a business. With free trade becoming more popular in countries that at one time placed strict regulations on foreign businesses he increase in capital has effected multinational and international companies to expand outside their home countries. The relaxed restrictions result in opportunities for people to experience global products and brands. Components of a Global Business Plan A business plan tells a story about a company’s strategies and goals. Along with this information, a business plan also requires specific components. The first section must start with an executive summary. The executive summary is a brief synopsis of the business plan that includes a description of the nature of the business, a reason rodents or services is needed, description of the organization and management team, and a brief explanation on the sales and marketing approach. The next section is more detailed information taken from the executive summary including the business, market analysis, financing, and management sections. Conclusion Stakeholders can be anyone directly and indirectly associated with the company, such as customers, suppliers, employees, and shareholders. Each can benefit as well as lose. The key is making sure all activities are streamlined and work in a synchronized manner. When this happens stakeholders benefit by lower costs, new reduce design and development, and trustworthiness of the company. Economic exposure is defined as, â€Å"the extent to which a firm’s market value is sensitive to unexpected changes in foreign currency’ (Perry, 2009, Three Types of Foreign Exchange Exposure for Mans, Para. ). Before expanding into another country, researching the economic structure of the country is important. Economic risk comes from the inability of a country to meet financial obligations. Sustaining, and self-governing society (Daniels, Redheaded, Sullivan, 2007, Para. 1). Creating a majority of people in society that accepts present political views an result in positive benefits including the attraction of foreign investment and international trade. When turmoil among the people and the roles of government exists, friction occur creating unpleasant unrest. How to cite Globalization trends, Papers

Love Poetry Essay Example For Students

Love Poetry Essay For my literature essay I have decided to write about three poems each showing a different view of love. The first poem I chosen is The passionate shepherd to his love written by Christopher Marlowe (1564-1593), The nymphs reply to the shepherd by Sir Walter Ralegh (1552-1618) and finally Bredon Hill written A. E. Housman (1859-1936). I have chosen these three poems because each of them have a different view of love and what each poet is prepared to do for love. The third poem I have chosen is in reply to the second poem and it takes a very different view of love in how it isnt always good and how it can fade. Some of the poems are realistic but others are very romanticized. Using these three poems I am going to contrast the view of love taken by each poet. The first poem I have choosen to comment on is The Passionate Shepherd To His Love written by Christopher Marlowe. In this poem we see a very romanticized view of how this poet sees love. This poem focusses on the things that the poet can give his love but if you look closely he has promised her things which are impractical and that will soon fade or break. Examples of this are fragrant posies, fair lined slippers, bed of roses and gown made of the finest wool. The poet has done this to show the girl, if she will love him, that their life will prefect and she can have all this but only if she loves him. All through this poem we can see that the poet focusses on nature and that everything he promises her is beautiful and natural. The poet has done this because he wants to keep with the rustic background and show her he is offering her all he can. The poet uses a lot of imagery, he includes lots of adjectives when he is describing things examples of this are craggy and melodious. These create a very personal view of how he sees love and helps the reader get nto the way the poet is thinking. By picking out lots of natural things the poet is showing the love is natural. The view of love in this poem is rather impractical as the poet only sees the good things and isnt aware of the problems that they may meet along the way. However, this is not the view taken when Sir Walter Ralegh replies to this poem in The Nymphs Reply To The Shepherd. This is the girl replying to the shepherd. You can see that she has taken a very realistic view love and tells the shepherd of all the problems they could face if they were together. Sir Walter Ralegh has taken all the things the shepherd has promised the girl and shows him how they could fade or die just like their love could. The poet has choosen negative words in this poem for example, rotten, cold and rivers rage. This poem is not what most people would call a love poem as it doesnt share the romanitcized view many of the other poets had around the time it was written. The girl then goes on to say that if these things could last she would agree to be with but since they do not she says she cant love him. Most typical love poems would have the girl say yes but in this oem it has shown that love is not all sweetness and happiness but that it can fade or even die in some cases. When you compare this poem to what it is replying to its seems very negative but infact it is because the poem written by Christopher Marlowe is very romanticized that is appears like this. Moving onto my third and final poem which is Bredon Hill written by A. E. Housman we see that it is a typical love poem about a young couple but at the end there is a twist. This poem tells us the story of a young couple who plan to marry but before they can the young girl dies. .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0 , .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0 .postImageUrl , .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0 , .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0:hover , .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0:visited , .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0:active { border:0!important; } .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0:active , .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0 .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u61ffd8a85a1110fefbf04088fcdd88c0:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Poetry Presentation Outline EssayThe oet then goes on to say they would lie on Bredon Hill in the summer and listen to the birds and the church bells ringing while they thought of their future. In stanza 3 they ignore the bells calling them to church sunday. Then the poet goes on to say how the bells chiming made him think of their wedding in the coming spring and how the bells will peal in celebration on that day. But it is Stanza 5 when the girl dies the poet expresses this in the metaphor My love rose up so early/ And stole out unbeknown/ And went to church alone. This time the bell that is calling him to church is one of great sorrow. The poet starts of very happy but as you move the end of the poem the mood changes as the poet loses his lover. A. E. Houman uses the image of the bells to show how even they can tell a story if you listen closely to them. In stanza 3 they are sounding happy and are celebrating but in stanza 7 the bells tell a different story, they no longer are celebrating but mourning a death. He continues to say that the people are congregated here for a funeral but infact it should be for their wedding. In stanza 6, the final verse the poet refers to the bells one last time and this time he replies to them by aying, I hear you I will come. This reply could mean one of two things. Firstly that he will go to church on a sunday or more likely that he is going to take his own life so he can reunitied with his lover in death. This is a typical love story were one of the young couple dies and the other partner takes their own life to be with them for example Romeo and Juillet. In this poem you can sense the pain this young man is feeling and it is clearly seen. The poet has used simple language but the message they are trying to convery is converyed clearly. Now that I have looked at each of the poems inturn and discussed how hey protray love I can see that I have picked three very different poems. In each of them the view is very different and is effective in their own way. I feel that both Brendon Hill and The passionate Shepherd to His Love are typical love poems but The Nymphs Reply To The Shepherd is very realisitc as it shows that love is not all beautiful and golden but that it can fade and will be lost. The poet has shown that you dont need to offer expensive gifts to have love. Each poem has its own way of getting its point across and I think that each of them did in their own way. The first wo poems I looked at were written around the same period but the third poem was written some time later. This is seen very clearly as the first two take a different view on love compared to the last poem. All three poems are similar in that they tell a love story and show how great love can be but the second and third poem go futher and say that love isnt always great and that there will be many problems. One theme which is common in all three poems is nature. They all talk about nature and the seasons. Some of them are not very graphic but they have a lot of feeling and emotion in them.

Burping Tommy free essay sample

A little boy! A sweet little boy! Oh, joy! Not another sister! Finally, I will have a comrade-in-arms against the takeover by the females in our household! As I jump up and click my heels yelling, â€Å"Alleluia, alleluia!† I ponder all the activities I can share with him: I’ll show him how to crawl, walk and eventually run, throw a football, play lacrosse, and all those other male things. Tommy is my seven-month-old brother. He is a giant among infants. With light brown hair, brown eyes and a smile that shines like polished gold, he is a handsome little guy and hopefully will be altruistic and wonderful-looking like his older brother. Tommy has a laugh that rings like a bell through the house. He wears only the finest onesies made of the softest fabrics and speaks in single syllables but I still know that what he is saying is his highest praise of me. We will write a custom essay sample on Burping Tommy or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page He is so enthusiastic about eating that when he looks at me with those beautiful basins of brown and starts wailing in his little discordant voice, you want to give him all the food in the world. Sadly, after Tommy eats, he rewards you by spitting up. Then, as you change this little angel from above, he smiles that warm smile and you just want to squeeze his little cheeks and say, â€Å"Who is a cute baby? You are, yes, you are† in a soft, high-pitched voice, but you stop yourself. Tommy could still sleep if a hurricane was going on, 50 elephants were stampeding through his room, and my sister was singing all at the same time. Yet busy as Tommy is, he still finds time to inchworm his little body over to play with his brother and cheer him up with his little chubby face. Tommy can cheer me up in a second by laughing, smiling and grabbing my hair. When you mix all his wonderful (and slightly less wonderful) traits together, you get a baby whom I love and cherish so much I could just blow up. This little person shows so much affection toward everyone that he should get an award. I am so excited about watching my baby brother grow up. I know that when he does, he will be one of the best human beings on the planet.

How to Determine a Reliable Source on the Internet

How to Determine a Reliable Source on the Internet It can be frustrating to conduct online research because internet sources can be quite unreliable. If you find an online article that provides relevant information for your research topic, you should take care to investigate the source to make sure it is valid and reliable. This is an essential step in maintaining sound research ethics. It is your responsibility as a researcher to find and use trustworthy sources. Methods to Investigate Your Source Investigate the Author In most cases, you should stay away from internet information that doesnt provide the name of an author. While the information contained in the article may be true, it is more difficult to validate information if you dont know the credentials of the author. If the author is named,  find their website to: Verify educational creditsDiscover if the writer is published in a scholarly journalSee if the writer has published a book from a university pressVerify that the writer is employed by a research institution or university Observe the URL If the information is linked to an organization, try to determine the reliability of the sponsoring organization. One tip is the URL ending. If the site name ends with .edu, it is most likely an educational institution. Even so, you should be aware of political bias. If a site ends in .gov, it is most likely a reliable government website. Government sites are usually good sources for statistics and objective reports. Sites that end in .org are usually non-profit organizations. They can be very good sources or very poor sources, so youll have to take care to research their possible agendas or political biases if they exist. For instance, collegeboard.org is the organization that provides the SAT and other tests. You can find valuable information, statistics, and advice on that site. PBS.org is a non-profit organization that provides educational public broadcasts. It provides a wealth of quality articles on its site. Other sites with the .org ending are advocacy groups that are highly political. While it is entirely possible to find reliable information from a site like this,  be mindful of the political slant and acknowledge this in your work. Online Journals and Magazines A reputable journal or magazine should contain a bibliography for every article. The list of sources within that bibliography should be pretty extensive, and it should include scholarly non-Internet sources. Check for statistics and data within the article to back up the claims made by the author. Does the writer provide evidence to support his statements? Look for citations of recent studies, perhaps with footnotes and see if there are primary quotes from other relevant experts in the field. News Sources ï » ¿Every television and print news source has a website. To some extent, you can rely on the most trusted news sources such as CNN and the BBC, but you should not rely on them exclusively. After all, network and cable news stations are involved in entertainment. Think of them as a stepping stone to more reliable sources.

Centerofthequadrangleduewestof UphamHall ontheMiamiUniversityCampus Essay

Centerofthequadrangleduewestof UphamHall ontheMiamiUniversityCampus - Essay Example The sun rises in the morning and spreads its rays on all objects across the globe; the sculpture is no exception. The sky was clear blue and humidity was at its lowest. The temperature was just beginning to rise and clouds that had heavily hanged over my head ran away to create a path for the sun. With the help of the sunlight, every single image seems clear and the vicinity of the sculpture is quite detailed. One advantage with the day-light is that every facet of the sculpture can be vividly observed. The bracketing and columns stand very firm to support the compact oval roof-like capital (Cothren, 451). The central-plan building is crystal-clear and I could easily see and appreciate the outstanding work of the burin used by this legendary sculptor. In the chilly evening, the sculpture seemed to have had absorbed some rays from the sun. And now the time came to spit the rays, like a fire dragon. I could not stop dreaming as watched the sculpture reflect a few rays of the sunset. I stood from a close range and watched the beautiful colonnade majestically rise from the very bold and energetic dado (Brookes, 37). A first, I imagined a dwarf on a stand-still; any coward man would run away as he comes to face with the statue. However, the dimness of the evening denied me the sight of the beautiful cameo and chamfer of the capital. In as much as the sculpture was quite prominent in the evening, a few details of it could not be observed. The sculpture is located a stone-throw away from the main administration block of the institution. It borders the pavement that connects a number of buildings within the institution. Many trees have gathered around the earthwork to behold its unending beauty. Being by a path, it was easy to locate. From far, however, one could not easily spot it since it is surrounded by a building and some trees. The management of the institution may have strategically placed it here so as to

Critically discuss the applicability of the Elaboration Likelihood Essay

Critically discuss the applicability of the Elaboration Likelihood Model to understanding consumer behaviour - Essay Example mentioned ways, it is extremely crucial for the marketers to have an understanding about how the customers process the information that they come across as ads. Numerous models and theories have been proposed that have elaborated upon the manner in which customers assimilate and process the information as well as on the way ads and other marketing communications impact on the consumer behaviour (Cohen, 1990). Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM), put forward by researchers Petty and Cacioppo (1983, 1986) is among the oldest and the most popular models that define how consumers formulate their attitudes towards a product or service on the basis of the communications that they receive as advertising. ELM has been employed by marketers and advertisers in making their communications more effective. ELM has also given the basic groundwork and direction to further research in areas like consumer cognitive processes and marketing communications elaboration. (Petty., Priester & Wegener, 1994).The current paper is aimed at evaluating the applicability of ELM to understanding consumer behaviour. The paper will begin with a brief overview of ELM and will contain a critical appraisal of its applicability in the consumer behaviour field. More specifically, it will focus on how ELM provides insights about consumer behaviour which in turn leads to more targeted and cost-effective advertising. The discuss ion will also include some of the weak points of ELM that need to be addressed in order to improve its applicability in the consumer behaviour field. The Elaboration Likelihood Model, when used in an advertising context, postulates that prospective customers form attitudes about ad messages via a process of message elaboration – or the amount of time and effort they spend on issue-relevant messaging. The extent to which they are likely to elaborate the message leads to two very different routes of information processing in the minds of the customers. These are the central

Emphasizing on the conclusions derived from various studies, it shall not be pious to state that the success of companies or any business is dependent on various aspects wherein supply chain can be considered as one of the major attributes. A supply chain may be defined as the combination of one or more companies for flow of products, services and other aspects of business from a source to the customers. It has been analysed in this context that a basic supply chain would include of a company, a supplier and an instantaneous customer directly linked in the flow of goods, services as well as information of the business or companies. The importance of supply chain in context of the modern day business is quite significant as it aims to provide competitive advantages to the companies in the targeted market. Comprehensively, based on these aspects, the systematic and strategic management of a supply chain network is often termed as ‘supply chain management’ (SCM) (Chopra & et. al., 2010; Mentzer, 2001; Christopher, 1998). Digital cameras are better than the usual Cameras in many aspects such like digital camera can display image immediately after it is recorded, can store any number of images depending on the memory card in it, we can record sound along with the video and can also delete the images if necessary. Some digital cameras have got better functions like they can crop the picture and can perform reasonable image editing. Basically they operate similar to that of a movie camera where it uses lens with different diaphragm to focus light onto the image pickup device. The shutter mechanism and the right diaphragm are used to capture the right amount of light to the image. The only difference between this is that a digital camera use to pickup device electronically rather than in chemical way. Many digital cameras are comparable to a 35 mm camera in price without the extra added cost of buying or developing film. A digital camera is similar in nature to a Polaroid camera in which the picture is instantly available for viewing and use by the photographer A digital camera helps its users to download the images onto their PC with special software which would be included with the camera where in other normal cameras We need to store the images in a floppy or a disk and then have to insert that into a PC and then store them. The Images can be edited using special software, can be sent to loved ones, can be printed, faxed and etc. It makes the Computer users to make the photographs or the images digitally rather than keeping or storing them on traditional film. Digital Images are far better than that of the Film images. The reason is that the image once captured will by default be in a format which can be shared and used easily. For example we can insert the images into a word processing documents, print them or send them by e-mail or post them on web sites. With most digital cameras we can see our images immediately on the small LCD screen behind the camera or we can also connect the camera to our TV and can make a slide show of it. From a Professional point of view Digital photography is the future of photography. The benefits a digital camera produce are many. This is due to the overwhelming popularity of technology and its advancement as well as the speed of advancement to mention here are a few: By going in a digital way we can save money in terms of long run since we need not buy the rolls of film and need not pay for developing them. Nowadays Time plays a major factor on everyones life. By going digital way we can save a lot of time as we need not go to the lab to drop the films and pick the photographs. We can see our images instantly without much delay and if the images are good its fine or if they are bad we can delete the image and take a new one instead of getting disappointed when we got to know that the photographs taken came bad. Digital cameras do not use toxic chemicals which often end up in flowing down the drains and into lakes from there. There are three steps of Digital Photography: 1) Capturing The first step in digital photography is to get a digital image and there is more than one way to do this. Digital still cameras capture photographs in a digital format. Film cameras capture photographs on slides, negatives, or prints which you can then scan to convert them to digital photographs. Video cameras capture images in a video format. You can then use a frame grabber to isolate out individual frames and save them as still images. Digital video cameras sometimes are able to capture still images just like a digital still camera. You can also use a video-editing program to extract individual frames from the digital video. 2) Editing Crop the photograph to emphasize the key part. Reduce the size of the photograph to make it smaller for posting on the Web or e-mailing. Use filters to sharpen it or even make it look like a watercolor or oil painting. Stitch together multiple frames to create panoramas. Merge two images to create a 3D stereo effect or an animated image for display on the Web. Change brightness and contrast or expand the tonal range to improve the image. Cut and paste parts of one image into another to create a photo montage. Convert the photograph to another format 3) Sharing Print the image on a color printer. Insert the photograph into a word processing or desktop publishing document. Post the photograph on a photo sharing Web site or a blog. E-mail the photograph to friends or family members. Send the photo to a service on the Web for prints, or to have the images printed as a bound book or onto T-shirts, posters, key rings, mouse pads, even cakes and cookies. Store the photograph on your system for later use. Create slide shows that play on a DVD player connected to the TV or a DVD drives in a computer. http://www.shortcourses.com/guide/guide1-2.html Social Applications of using a Digital camera: Digital photography has given a new way of design for shopping that is people can buy their requirements by browsing the web sites and by viewing their desired products which are digitally photographed and loaded into the sites. Lethal Tools of Our Past-Weapons of The Frontier :: essays research papers fc

Lethal Tools of Our Past- Weapons of The Frontier   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  A starving man paves his own highway with the calloused soles of his hunger. Out on the untamed wastelands, forests, and prairies it was the way of the gun, the knife, and the axe for all that managed to survive. And survive these brave men and women did with a sheer will of endurance that the pampered of today’s world has not come to know even the shadow of. In our modern comfort we live in what legacy these bold souls carved out of this nation, and much of the thanks we must give is passed to the sweat-hewned implements of their survival, the weapons of the frontier.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Scourging the countryside for this evening’s meal or simply keeping wary of impending danger, one often felt naked without a trustworthy gun at their side. A firearm often made one feel invincible, for the power of a bullet could protect the weakest and cowardly from even the strongest and fiercest of animals and people. In it’s use it proved to be an action that spoke louder than words, many a quarrel has been put to rest through this instrument, whose music is often not one of good cheer.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The rifle and the coveted shotgun, literally brought home the bacon. With sleek models such as the Winchester .44 in 1873, accurate targeting sights increased a hunter’s ability to take down his prey, even from large distances, often exceeding 200 yards. The other weapon of choice, the shotgun, did not boast a straight, clean shot, but had the capacity to tear anything to shreds in a single blast. A short barrel provided the advantage of a wider blast range and easier handling (Trachtman et al 50). In many battles, the shotguns were often preferred for their simplifying features.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In the frequently lawless country that the United States had become, a quicker solution for combat was deemed necessary. It did not take long for such handguns as the 1873 Colt Peacemaker to emerge as the weapon of choice for gunfighter, cowboy, sheriff or civilian. Fighting men everywhere considered the peacemaker’s balance and durability superior to that of other revolvers of the day, and they expressed their appreciation by clamoring for a variety of versions – some decorative or modified for a fast draw, others were plain, but all were lethal (Trachtman et al 43). With a growing consideration of violence, many Americans rushed to buy them in large quantities, often through the mail.

Improving Communication on Overloaded Staff Essay

When the number of employees is to short compared to the tasks they have to accomplish, there is really a tendency to have overloaded employees which, in consequence, produce unaccomplished tasks. In the end, the burden only accumulates and the company shoulders them all. As the manager, I am not allowed to get more employees to distribute the tasks evenly. This worsens the case. The business went slow and things could worsen if more tasks are not done. It may even stop the business from recovering. As much as I would want my boss to understand the case, he cannot see the bigger picture and I am left with the problem all by myself. The first thing I would have to do would be to ask for our own office and I would transfer my office near the employees. That way, I could easily supervise them and the handing of the tasks won’t be difficult. I find that the reason why my staff doesn’t heed to my requests is that the requests I made are not personal. They could easily ignore my e-mail messages or even pretend that they do not receive the message which would be unusual because I should have received a message failure notice. If I could be there to personally hand in the tasks with the employees, I think, there would be no reason or, at least, less reasons why they would find it difficult to handle the task because there would be a free discussion among us. The information dissemination would be a lot easier. Any confusion and conflicts would also be easily resolved if I am present. The presence of a leader is important in any organization and in any activities of that organization. I also think that one reason why my staff feels overloaded is that they have been performing poorly. In the first place, I won’t be giving them tasks if I don’t think they would be able to finish it. As a manager, I have to be reasonable without compromising the desired outcome of our business. I will give them tasks one at a time so we could be sure that none of the tasks overlaps. That way, they won’t be able to complain about overloading. I’ve mentioned that they may have been performing poorly that is why there is task overload. I think that they fail to finish tasks on time or maybe, they would start on something new without finishing the previous tasks so tasks pile up. The solution to that would be good supervision. Supervision would allow us to see if the tasks are done at the specified time and if the tasks are already piling up. For accumulation of tasks, I’ve said that I will be giving tasks one at a time so it will never be a problem. If, in unavoidable circumstances, there would be a need to perform tasks simultaneously, I think I think I would have to apply my management skills. It may have been possible that the staff feels lax. It is because nobody supervises them. With the presence of an authority, they won’t be that lax. I think that the atmosphere in the office has not been good because none was there to lead. In my previous observation, I have also found that my staff doesn’t know how to prioritize. Making priorities would never be my problem because I have the skills in managing. I could do the prioritizing for them. The thing is, as a team, we won’t be that effective if only I do all the initiative and just pass on tasks on them. As a manager, I really do have the right to assign. However, as a leader, I also have the responsibility to put the drive on my subordinates. I have to turn them into passionate employees because as much as I try to lighten the burden on my employees, if they really do not enjoy what they are doing, we will have a difficulty in being productive. I have to influence them and even teach them management skills because everyone needs that. In essence, my presence in the office will allow me easy supervision among the employees.

Soft and Hard Power Essays

Soft and Hard Power Essays Soft and Hard Power Essay Soft and Hard Power Essay Essay Topic: Hard Times Soft Power and American Foreign Policy There is a growing anti-American sentiment across the globe. The Eurobarometer showed that Europeans think Americans tend to play a negative role in fighting poverty, protecting environment and maintaining peace. There is growing unpopularity amongst the youth of the world against the US. The US policy makers are not really concerned about this growing unpopularity because there is this notion that America is very strong. Because of this attitude American foreign policy also pays very little attention to soft power. * However, the US needs soft power for three reasons: It cannot tackle the new security threats with old security strategy. Example, while US was able to successfully topple the Taliban regime in Afghanistan after 9/11 it was not able to successfully over throw Al-Qeada which has presence in over 60 countries. * Unpopularity and disregard for softpower can have a negative effect on US image, which in turn can reduce its hard power. * In a growing global information age it is very important to have alliance across the globe. If the US keeps emphasizing on hard power it will become difficult for US to find alliances. For example if a Swede hacks into the Pentagon the US needs the help of Sweden to extradite their citizens. However, if relationship with Sweden is not good then it becomes difficult for the US to tackle cyber warfare. In recent times neo-conservatives have taken over foreign policy where they have a desire to spread democracy. However, unlike their predecessors who emphasized on the building international institutions along with democracy promotion, neo-cons want to spread democracy with the use of hard power. According to Joseph Nye this is a wrong strategy. However Nye states that all is not lost for the US and it can still overhaul its foreign policy. He suggests: a) Promote more economic development policy focused on the world’s poor. He credits George Bush for emphasizing long term assistance to African poor. b) To build alliance through international institutions. For example, the war in Kosovo had broad legitimacy and actually improved the image of US because US went through the security council where it got an overwhelming majority to go ahead with its plans. In the end Nye states that what the US needs is a Jeffersonian ideology towards foreign policy rather than a Jacksonian one.

The Problem of Internet Piracy in Modern Society

The Problem of Internet Piracy in Modern Society Online piracy is one of the major problems that the entertainment industry faces. Online piracy makes the industry lose billions of dollars annually. It has led to significant reduction in the number of music CDs that record labels sell annually. Record labels have undertaken several strategies to reduce online piracy.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Problem of Internet Piracy in Modern Society specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Litigation against companies that engage in online piracy is one of the strategies that record labels use to reduce the vice. In addition, record labels have set up legitimate websites where customers can download music online. However, these measures have not been successful. The Pirate Bay was one of the companies that engaged in online piracy of music. The company enabled users to access an unlimited number of pirated content. The Pirate Bay was primarily a business. Therefore, it had to make a profit to remain in operation. The company generated its revenue from advertisements. There were various advertisements on the company’s web page. Companies that advertised on The Pirate Bay’s web page paid a premium price for the service. Since most people who pirate music online are between the ages of 14 and 21, the advertisements were very effective. This is because people in this age bracket are more responsive to various online advertisements. Therefore, the business model of the company is the advertising revenue. The Pirate Bay did not charge customers to download music from the site. In addition, The Pirate Bay did not store the pirated music. The company was a search engine that enabled its users to access pirated content expediently from other providers. This enabled the company to gain popularity quickly. P2P networks that operate without corporate sponsorship may repackage and sell pirated content to generate revenue. The networks usually sell the repackaged content at prices that are much lower than the recommended market prices. However, P2P networks do not remit the payments they receive from their customers to the music companies that own the copyright for the repackaged content. P2P networks may also sell subscriptions to private networks. Certain P2P networks may generate revenue by advertising to users of the networks through spyware and adware programs that have pop-up advertisements. Users download the spyware or adware when they download software from the company. The spyware and adware may send unsolicited e-mails from parties that pay for the service. There are many social and legal implications of piracy. Various people argue that P2P sites deny musicians and record labels valuable income. This reduces the profitability of the record labels. In addition, reduced income may reduce motivation of artists and record labels. However, there are arguments against this opinion. Record labels do not benefit musicians.Adve rtising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Their only aim is to make money by exploiting musicians. Musicians make a sizeable percentage of their income from endorsements and concerts. Therefore, it is wrong for the record labels to claim that they are protecting the music industry when in fact they are only protecting their own interests. Record labels should not shut down P2P sites since they are simply a means of accessing pirated music. They do not engage in piracy directly. Shutting the P2P sites would not eliminate piracy. It would only make it hard for people to pirate music using P2P sites. However, people would ultimately find other means of accessing pirated content. The only solution is for the record labels to develop new platforms of promoting and distributing their music. In addition, record labels may target parties that provide pirated content to P2P networks. Th e ruling of the Swedish court would not reduce illegal sharing of music files over the internet. In addition, the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on sharing files over the internet would not reduce internet piracy in the US. The decision of the courts would make people devise new means of pirating music. These methods may be more creative and innovative. This may make it hard for authorities to detect piracy. Therefore, the only solution is for record labels to develop new promotion and distribution channels that may help in countering piracy. Facebook and Apple are some of the companies that have developed innovative ways of distributing music. These companies have experienced tremendous success due to the innovative music distribution channels. People who are more than 21 years old are usually more cautious than people who are much younger. This is because these people may have various responsibilities. Therefore, they would not like to engage in activities that would put the m at risk. Therefore, legal action against people who engage in piracy may deter people who are more than 21 years old from engaging in piracy. Legal action due to piracy may put their jobs or families in jeopardy. In addition, people who are more than 21 years old have a source of income. Therefore, they may be unwilling to download pirated content since they can pay for the original version. In addition, people who are more than 21 years old may not have time to search for pirated content, which is not easily available on the internet. On the other hand, people who are between 14 and 21 years old may engage in piracy since people in this age bracket are carefree. They may not have a clear understanding of the consequences of their actions. In addition, people in this age bracket may download pirated content due to lack of money to buy the original versions.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Problem of Internet Piracy in Modern Society specifically for y ou for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In the modern world, record labels do not perform roles that justify their huge revenues. Record labels engage in the promotion and distribution of music. However, technology has availed various tools that musicians may use to distribute and promote their work. Social media is one of the major technological tools that musicians may use to promote and distribute their music. The major advantage of these technological tools is that musicians would only use a fraction of the money that record labels would use to distribute and promote their music. Various bands have launched their music careers using YouTube or other internet based platforms. These platforms enable artists to earn more income than what the record labels may be willing to pay them. Record labels still use the business models that they were using during the 1980s prior to the invention of the internet. Therefore, it is vital for record labels to embrace these tools . Failure to embrace these tools would make record labels lose their competitive edge in the market. Piracy is one the problems that make the entertainment industry lose vast sums of money. It is vital for record labels and other legitimate companies in the industries to formulate new methods of promotion and distribution of copyrighted content. Suing companies and people that engage in piracy would not solve the problem. This may make the culprits devise more innovative ways of engaging in piracy. This would increase the severity of the problem.

GLOBAL ECONOMIC Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

GLOBAL ECONOMIC - Assignment Example The other reason for the difference s in GDP per capita is differences in productivity among countries with the level of productivity in a country being depicted by high GDP per capita symbolized by Australia and UK in the chart above. China, Indonesia, and Russia have the same level of labour productivity explaining the similarity in GDP per capita. The other reason that could be the cause for the differences in the GDP per capita is the working hours of the workers in the given countries with the country that has the highest GDP per capita having high working hours compared to the other countries. Australian and UK could have high working hours compared to the working hours in China, Russia, and Indonesia depicting the difference in GDP per capita in the graph. Four reasons can explain the differences between the GDP of the five countries including amount of physical resources, quality and quantity of human resource, the size of the workforce, and the technology level (WORLD BANK, 2013). China could have been increasing the amount of physical capital, promoting highly skilled and trained human resource, increasing workforce size, and advancing technology from 1994 to 2012 as depicted by the rise in GDP over the years. The size of workforce, advancement in technology, training and equipping the human resource, and amount of physical resources seems to have been almost constant in Indonesia, Australia, and Russia due to the slight changes in GDP growth from 1994 to 2012. There are, however slight positive changes in skills, technology, workforce, and physical resources in UK showed by the increase from 1994 to 2007, but these factors may have slightly fallen to result in the down ward trend in the GDP in UK from 2001 to 2012. The possible economic effects for the differences in the GDP growth are three including the quality of governance, which are the mechanisms and institutions that aid in decision-making and authority dispensation in a

Analyzing Change - Business Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Analyzing Change - Business - Essay Example their environment; climate change; enemies; changes in friendly trading partners; and the societys political, economic and social responses to these shifts. (Diamond, 2005) The collapse of the Yucatan Empire included decline in economic and political aspects of the nation. Initially this empire was considered as New World’s most advanced civilization before Columbus discovery of America. The government organization of rulers and kings were overthrown, masses of lands became unused and barren while an estimated ninety percent of the citizens vanished. This occurred around 2,500 years ago. The main reason attributed to this failure of the Yucatan Empire was the environmental degradation caused by the activities of the people in the tribes. They overused and abused the forests which led to land erosion and lack of water supply. Scarcity of food during their time was a result of their harshness to the environment. Since there was little food and water, men fought over the remaining amounts of resources which even caused wars for survival. Japan, Tonga, Tikopia, the New Guinea Highlands and Central and Northwest Europe were among the countries that were able to preserve the richness of their culture throughout the years. This time, the environment was used to their advantage unlike the fate of the Yucatan Empire which was destroyed due to the adverse effects of their abuse of their natural resources. The reason for their survival is due to their ability to adapt to the needs of their environment. Japan, during the 1600s, also experienced deforestation but they were able to address the problem by reducing their consumption of wood and by planting more trees that the future generations can use. Japan was able to stand on its own for they had the capacity to sustain the basic needs of their people such as the peasants without the help of other nations since they had closed- door policy then. Iceland had to experience the same environmental concerns with the Yucatan

Comparing School Lunches and Prison Food Research Paper

Comparing School Lunches and Prison Food - Research Paper Example The provision of free and reduced-cost meals to children has been the main focus for this. The nutrition status of the food provided to the children had not been the main focus until recently when the current first lady, Michelle Obama guided the improvement of the feeding program by improving the nutrition status. Over 90% of school going children in the US, both in public and nonprofit private schools participate in the lunch program. The nutrition offered to the children helps promote their health as well as their intellectual capacity to attend to academic tasks. The focus on improving nutrition at school level came following a realization that schools are unique in shaping behavior. This, therefore, means that they offer the best environment to promote healthy eating behaviors. Whereas the major stakeholders, including the parents, health, and nutrition experts as well as the authorities are optimistic about the program, most children are not. Their main concern among the students is the presumed similarity between the school lunch and the food offered in the federal prisons. The amount of food served in schools and that in prison lunch is almost the same. This is based on the number of calories that each of the servings contains. For the prison food, the average number of calories is 1400 which is less than the normal requirement for the adults. Over 90% of school going children in the US, both in public and nonprofit private schools participate in the lunch program. The nutrition offered to the children helps

Identity theft IQ test Essay Example for Free

Identity theft IQ test Essay The website, www. privacy. org, featured two tests namely â€Å"Identity Theft IQ Test† and â€Å"Workplace Identity Theft IQ Test,† wherein people can more or less determine whether or not that they are at risk of unknowingly divulging their identities through identification cards and allowing shady characters to use them. In â€Å"Identity Theft IQ Test,† I was asked to answer questions pertaining to how much and how often I revealed or brought out things that are prone to identity theft such as my Social Security number and insurance card among others. I was also asked if my identification numbers are the same in all my identification cards. I got a 50 on the test which means that I am moderately prone to identity theft. In the â€Å"Workplace Identity Theft IQ Test†the questions basically pertained to what businesses can do to protect the identity of its employees since almost all employers require several identification requirements before hiring prospective employees. I got 10 out of 20 which means I am again moderately at risk to identity theft. Basically, to protect myself and prevent criminals from using my identity to commit fraud, I have to avoid bringing with me identification cards, such as Social Security cards, that can give a lot of information about myself unless I really need them. Moreover, I can also protect myself from identity theft in the place where I am employed if I make sure that the company or corporation I am working can safely secure my personal records and files. If not, I should be the one to suggest measures that can prevent identity theft to my superiors. Finally, in third test, â€Å"MailFrontier’s Phishing IQ Test,† I was tasked to assess the legitimacy of 10 email samples commonly that people commonly receive from their subscriptions or banks, such as account verification and providing of identification, among others. I got a 10 out of 10 which basically means I do not easily believe emails that ask me to give information about myself.

When the word â€Å"death penalty† or capital punishment is mentioned, so is morality. Others claim that there is no morality in such punishment. However, what is more moral than the Bible? The Bible encourages condemning sinners. The golden rule practically sums it all up: do unto others as you want done unto you. It is only fair that when an innocent life or lives are taken, some kind of compensation is given. In most cases, the death penalty is a matter of justice and equality. With most crimes, the purposes of the punishment are to rehabilitate the convict and to send a warning to others who would commit similar crimes. FMCG market growing at around 7% .Moreover, the shampoo market is growing at a phenomenal rate of 22%, a trend that started in early 2000.Therefore; Alfred was rightly tempted towards entering the Shampoo market. Consumer decision making varies with the type of buying decision. There are four types of buying behavior that consumer purchase of FMCG products. There are complex buying behavior, dissonance-reducing buyer behavior, habitual buying behavior & varietyseeking behavior. The new company was named after his beloved wife Pamela. As a symbol of his love, the brand name of the product is Pamela Shampoo. Alfred allocated a substantial amount of money to advertise the new brand of Shampoo. A brand is a name, term, sign, symbol, or design, or combination of them, intended to identify the goods or services of one seller or group of sellers and to differentiate them from those of competitors. So, brand name & brand image is the identity of the product to differentiate them from others. Advertising play the role of introduce the product to others. Market research steps must be followed for developing marketing strategy. For developing marketing tactics we need to take four strategies. That are individual names, blanket family names, separate family names for all products, and company trade name combined with individual product names. Pamela shampoo did not follow them. The company must go for line filling strategy and must increase depth in its product systems. It can have baby shampoo, herbal shampoo, anti-dandruff and other varieties by keeping an efficient product mix. f. It may think of co-branding strategies with possible companies who may be involved with production and distribution/market hair oil.  g. Must rearrange the sales force. Rather than having its own sales force and incurring major fixed cost, it can rely on its distributors as distribution channels. h. Must have Proper packaging and labels for the products that convey the descriptive and persuasive information to consumers. The labels that the containers will use must be attractive and eye-catching.

Esay Douglas Essay

Esay Douglas Essay Esay Douglas Essay Zakaria Habi Mr. Cormier CLN4U1-02 October 11, 2012 Abortion: The Right to Life Abortion is the termination of a fetus (a developing human being in the womb) or an embryo prior to its due date.  ¹ In Canadian law, abortion was decriminalized in 1988 and is acknowledged by Canada’s Supreme Court and the government as a medical procedure covered under the Canada Health Act (CHA, 1984). All women regardless of age, economic status, or a place of residency, are to have access to the procedure.  ² The topic of abortion is a controversial issue that generates many opinions among the people of who are pro-life, pro-choice or just undecided on abortion. Reasons as to why abortion is such a heated topic has a lot to do with what is the definition of a human being. Is it when the sperm and egg start to fertilize and become an embryo? Or maybe it is after the first trimester of pregnancy ends (first three months of a pregnancy) when many parts of the fetus’ organs such as the heart and brain are already developed and workin g? People who advocate pro-choice come from a variety of backgrounds such as students, teachers, lawyers, health-care workers and lawyers. They are also from different ethnic, socioeconomic backgrounds and religions. Individuals who advocate pro-choice do not necessarily agree with abortion, but instead agree that women have the right to decide between the choice of carrying on with their pregnancy or having an abortion. They rather make the decision than having a politician or a law tell them what they can and cannot do. As the Republican Pro-Choice Coalition defines its as, â€Å" The pro-choice position is neither for or against abortions, instead, simply advocates that government should not interfere in such decisions that are best left to individuals.†Ã‚ ³ Many pro-choice religious groups find no condemnations of abortion in the bible, many believe that it is up to the individual and his/her conscious to determine whether abortion is or is not sinful or immoral.4 Many people feel that they do not want to take responsibility and care for another human being when they alone do not feel they know what they yet want to do. Especially in the cases of abortion many are teenage females who are still in high school and do not wish to be overburdened with adding the responsibility of another human being. Individuals who are pro-choice also believe in having the child and then giving it up for adoption, which is a popular choice for many pregnant females who are past the first trimester of their pregnancy. After the first trimester abortion becomes harder and involves more risk. Being pro-choice about abortion, in my opinion, is the better choice as abortion has to do with the individual as it affects the person psychologically, physically and the access barriers they might encounter in having an abortion, if it is illegal. Many studies have been performed to examine if having an abortion can and would lead to psychological effects and possible li nks to mental illness, anxiety or depression. The results that came back mainly showed that having an abortion does not lead to having psychological problems. In a study done a very small percentage, 3% to be exact, have long term feelings of guilt and some of those individuals feel that the abortion was a mistake.5 Many women feel relieved after the abortion was done although looking back they admit that it was regrettable, but the right decision at that time.6 A study done by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges found that unwanted pregnancies doubles the risk of having mental issues, however that the rate does not change whether the woman chooses to have an abortion or to keep the baby.7 Also abortions should be legal because many times unwanted pregnancies are due to rape and incest. If the woman keeps the baby, it will be a constant reminder of the harsh act of rape or incest. This will lead to emotional instability as the mother will have a hard time to

The Effects of Domestic Violence

The Effects of Domestic Violence Domestic violence can happen to people from all races, age, sexual orientation, social status and gender. Forms of domestic violence include rape, stalking and abusive behaviour against a person. Domestic violence has adverse effects on those who go through it as well as those who witness it.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on The Effects of Domestic Violence specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The effects range from physical injury, body and mental health complications and economic loss in terms of money used in treatment. It is worth noting that violence caused by men is not a result of their mental illnesses, but by the lack of anger and stress management skills. There are myths and realities about domestic violence, but with the knowledge of prevention tips many cases can be avoided. The information provided in the handout is very important in empowering women. According to statistics and research provided in the hand out, women are at a higher risk of being victims of domestic violence. This has put me on the watch out as it is clear that rapists and stalkers are looking for opportunities to exert their control. The handout has also proven important as it has helped me to understand why in spite of a lot of public awareness; domestic violence is still going on. As is explained, our parents often assault one another in front of the children while paying no attention to the bad lessons the children could learn from their uncivilized behaviours. Later on in life, children get involved in violence thinking it is a normal way of life. There are so many ways of preventing domestic violence. As a woman, I believe it is my role to educate my children on domestic violence while they are still young, so that they may not part from the teachings when they become adults. The handout has helped me realise that stalking is just as dangerous as other forms of domestic violence. Stalking instil fear in a person , making him or her lose his or her freedom. This can lead to death, mental illness and the victim can hardly do tasks expected of them since they do not know what will happen next. Stalking is worsened by the fact that there are no behavioural facts that can predict what a stocker will eventually do. They may torture their victims, assault them, rape them or even kill them. The government and the organizations that work toward helping victims of violence should involve all people in the community especially women who are the key in enhancing and implementing change. As a woman, I should have nothing to be ashamed of in taking measures against a stalker or rapist since I am the victim. Having learned of the great effects of domestic violence, loss in low work output, failure to go to work, employment problems due to the self-doubt, depression and confusion experienced by the victims, I have not just made it my point to be more careful, but also to assist victims by taking them for c ounselling. So as to fight domestic violence, ladies and women being the most affected, need to be aware of all the preventive tips towards rape and stalking.Advertising Looking for report on gender studies? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Ignorance is no defence and therefore, people should not live on assumptions and myths. In conclusion, the handout is not just informative, but also inspiring. However, the latest cases of rape have involved people who the victims are well acquainted with. It is therefore important to emphasize to all that caution should be taken even against close friends when it comes to rape.

Russian Jews and Hollywood Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Russian Jews and Hollywood - Essay Example What became widely accepted as the American dream was essentially forged in Hollywood by a handful of East European Jews. The stimulating feature-length documentary Hollywoodism: Jews, Movies and the American Dream were produced by two-time Emmy award-winning filmmakers Simcha Jacobovici and Elliott Halpern. Many Russians Jews had to overcome obstacles of heavy accents, being cut off from their cultural base, being forced to work beneath their talents, and taking roles that promoted ethnic stereotypes. As with most Hollywood stories, there are also great artistic and personal triumphs; many relished the opportunity to pursue their dreams largely free of political entanglements. In the story of Russian migrs, Robinson also discusses the impact of such Soviet artists as Sergei Eisenstein and Sergei Prokofiev and their visits to Hollywood. The book is also an informed and entertaining analysis of the representation of Russians and Soviets in American cinema. As a result, it was mainly through the medium of film that Americans' images of and attitudes towards Russia were shaped. The Jazz Singer (1927) was not the first Vita phone or in other words sound-on-disk feature, it was the

M_Q_2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

M_Q_2 - Essay Example The culture of an organization shows the way the employees deal and interact with each other while performing their job related tasks. I believe that the culture of an organization develops with time when the employees, managers, and all governing bodies of an organization work with full commitment shaping a positive organizational culture. In my view, the culture of an organization really improves the performance and productivity of an organization. A strong organizational culture unites the employees and motivates them to work efficiently and professionally towards their goals. Organizational culture includes such elements, which play a vital role in making a company reach desired sets of goals and objectives in an effective way. Some of the most influencing tasks, which organizational culture performs, include determining the organization’s effectiveness and capacity, putting energy and momentum in the employees in order to ensure organization’s success, injecting se nse of responsibility in the employees, and making the employees work efficiently towards achievement of desired goals and objectives. These were some of those roles, which culture plays in making an organization achieve desired goals and objective effectively and efficiently. Answer: No: 2 Culture of an organization is one of the main drivers of organizational performance and it can definitely be used to increase performance. Daniels A. and Daniels J. found that managers need to evaluate performances of the employees and the organizations in order to implement positive changes. It depends on the managers of an organization to motivate and encourage employees to work with full dedication and commitment. The dedication and commitment shown by the employees of a company towards their job responsibilities shape the culture of the company. If the employees carry out their job related tasks efficiently, it creates an enthusiastic and motivated culture of the organization, which positivel y affects the new employees who come and join the company. From here, the transition process starts where impact of employees’ performance on the culture of an organization shifts towards impact of organizational culture on the performance of new employees. Once the employees succeed in shaping a work-oriented culture in an organization, it plays a considerable role in motivating new employees to work hard for the company. A new employee is not very much aware of the culture of the company where he/she gets a job. When that employee starts working for the company, he/she observes the overall workplace culture of the company and shapes his/her job behavior according to that culture. If a company will have work-oriented culture enriched with the elements of motivation, innovation, and workplace ethics, it will make a positive impact on the new employees and will make them work hard to achieve the company’s goals and objectives. Therefore, we can say that strong culture o f an organization not only increases employees’ productivity but also increases the overall organizational performance. Answer: No: 3 As a senior leader, I will like to change the culture of the organization by integrating the elements of hard work, commitment, dedication, and enthusiasm in the existing culture of the organization. I believe that when employees feel like owning the company, they work with more commitment in order to make their company reach heights of success in any specific market. If a company injects the sense of

Environmental Case Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Environmental Case Analysis - Essay Example The individuals in effect make up the society and hence have to decide what they want to do with their resources but the ultimate decision maker is the government who has to look after the environmental as well as economical side of each decision. The society's concern is to increase their welfare from the amount of resources that they have and the government has to take the decision with economic viability in mind, the case points out that the only way to strike a balance between the two is to have a free market economic system in place which will balance the amount of resources that need to be put in to reduce pollution and those that need to be employed else where. The major economic concepts in the case are of opportunity costs and cost benefit analysis, these concepts are the binding factors for the environmental and economic side of the argument. The analysis can be divided into two portions: the scientific point of view and the ethical point of view, talking of the scientific point of view the first thing that is to be understood is that all things that are achievable in a laboratory are not achievable in the world outside it for example clean water only exists in laboratories and not outside them. But who is to decide what clean is What is clean for some one is not clean for some one else and hence there is no agreement. ... extent does it have to be curbed Should it be cut off from its roots Should it be allowed to remain at a level These are the questions that have to be answered by the scientific side of the issue. When we speak of science, inevitably we have to speak of economics because it is economics that shows us the way to have a cost effective method of curbing pollution. Such methods and processes should be introduced, which tend to minimize maximum amount of pollution using the minimum amount of resources available. The first thing to understand is that there are a limited number of resources that every community has on its disposal and it has to decide how and where to use these resources, hence not all the resources can be used to curb pollution because then the community will have nothing to eat, wear and will have no shelter over their heads. On the other hand if none of the resources are used to curb pollution then pollution would become a major issue for that community. Hence this shows that we have to strike the right balance, that is, the right decision in the right area at the right time. As stated in the case, the right balance can only be achieved if there is a free market economy in place. A free market economy is one where every individual seeks to attain his or her goals in any suitable way he or she wants without any specific restriction or restraints and hence increase his or her satisfaction. By doing this they increase the over all utility of the community and hence in a free market economic system there is a negligible role of the government. Adam smith, the father of economics, said the free market economy operates as if an invisible hand guides each and every individual to attain their goals, and keeps on shifting the economy to the right equilibrium

Interpersonal Communication Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Interpersonal Communication - Article Example The writer, Chris Zervas, states that, the area of constructive criticism can be problematic as "We say things we don't mean or recipients hear more than was meant." (1) Therefore, often during constructive criticism in a potentially sensitive area such as the workplace, direct channels of interpersonal communication are not functioning correctly. The sender is communicating the wrong message, using inadequate phrasing and wrong information whilst the other participant receives a distorted or exaggerated message. The receiver subconsciously picks up another message from indirect channels of interpersonal communication. These indirect channels may include the tone of voice of the sender or his body language. The receiver may suspect that the sender has hidden motivations, revealed by these uncontrolled actions. The receiver also may react defensively as he or she may feel that their position within the work team is threatened. Chris Zervas uses his management insight to implement "ski llful communication" which "can make these situations far less volatile."(2) Zervas states that the important connotation of the senders message should make the receiver feel respected and valued, which is the converse of how criticism generally makes people feel.

Chronic Conditions Prevention and Management Assignment - 1

Chronic Conditions Prevention and Management - Assignment Example Secondly, cancer has many causative agents which include viruses like the human papilloma virus, radiations, and unprotected sex among other factors. Cancer has a long latency period implying that it can take along period before the effects are seen. Latency period depends on factors like degree of exposure to the risk, causative agent and immune competency of an individual and the site of inoculation of the causative agent (Pories, Moses and Lotz, 2009) Cancer is a disease known to affect all segments of the Australian population. However, the older people are primary the biggest victims. As such, the framework targets people aged between 50 years and 70 years. Greene & Heniford (2010) state that incidents of cancer increase exponentially with advancement in age. It is for this reason that different scholars like McVie (2006) and Pories, Moses & Lotz (2009) have come up with studies that are focused on mitigating the effects of the disease among the elderly. Members of the targeted population are not only at higher risk of contracting the disease but also face various challenges in recovery from the condition. When determining the treatment procedures for the group, care givers are always required to focus on the overall health of the individuals in question as well as their ability to keep up with their family activities. Different sets of conditions influence how the people aged between 50 and 75 cope with cancer. Most of the sta ccatos are related to their physical health. Age is not only a cancer risk factor but also an aspect that influences the probability of suffering from other related conditions and injuries. The aging process among this target population is a very complex issue. Foot & Sanson-Fisher (2005) notes that the actual age and the physical wellbeing of the members of this sample affects how they respond to cancer and their mental wellbeing. The other major characteristic of this group is their physical ability to respond to the
